Swiss innovations - success stories

Ear clip
In a joint project with the Group for NeuroComputing in St Gallen the KTI start-up firm SenTec AG in Therwil has produced the first microsensor with an integrated digital signal processor that quickly and continuously records accurate data on a patient’s vital parameters. It is a completely non-invasive device: the sensor is attached to a clip which is quite simply attached to the ear lobe.

A thumbnail-sized analytical lab
Two scientists at the EPF Lausanne had the brilliant idea of developing a mini-lab on a chip in polymer and distributing it through their own company DiagnoSwiss SA.

Sophisticated sensor technology for hydrocephalus patients
Universities of applied science, the ETH Zürich and the EPF Lausanne cooperated on a CTI project to develop a biocompatible sensor to monitor excess cerebro- spinal fluid flow in the shunt of hydrocephalus patients.

Chaos in the heart - Virtual simulation
Specialists from various disciplines such as cardiology, physics, electrotechnology and IT have teamed up to carry out a computer simulation of virtual heart tissue. This is the first time it has been possible to develop specific therapies on screen for arrhythmia which can often be fatal.
